I've just reached my one year anniversary on the BI Team. Which means it's time for reflection and planning for the year to come.
My Manager has given me a clean slate and asked 'if I could be doing anything, what would it be? Do I need more people on the team? More technical training? A change to the services we offer the analyst community? Anything at all.
While certainly an incredible opportunity to shape my role, it's a lot to think about and I'm blocking out some time this week to get my head around it.
I currently support 30ish Data Analysts and Scientists by providing query consulting and troubleshooting data quality issues. My big project this year has been to deliver a right-sized analyst environment that automates a lot of the ETL and shuffling of data around. So I need to think about what Analyst Support 2.0 is going to look like.
Ali's post earlier in the month got me thinking about this and I've made some (brief) notes on what I'd like to do in the next year.
Things I’m interested in:
- Building in AWS
- Building Data models in Wherescape
- Using github properly, not just my own repos
- Writing good documentation
- Helping people
Things I’m not interested in:
- Building reports that get ignored
- AI/machine learning/VR/blockchain/hype
- Front end web dev (it's just not for me)
- Google analytics and using data to ‘sell more stuff’
- Anything with maths
- Product mgmt/ownership
- Project mgmt
With the calendar year coming to a close, what would you do if you had a clean slate? Is there anything you'd like to be doing more of or less of?
