As another self-taught developer let me say hello.
I graduated Political Science. Didn't even think of looking for a job in the field. While writing my masters thesis I started learning to code from various instructional websites. I eventually focused on Java, got an OCA certificate and started applying for jobs. I've been working for just under 4 years now.
Often I've bumped into other non-CS grads with pretty solid development skills and good salaries.
Disclaimer: I've played around with computers since I was 4 years old and have used various Linux distributions since high school. I just don't care about formal education all that much. :)
