I disagree. I got a lot out of university, mostly base knowledge that I wouldn't have learned in a job or at least much later. While I might not actively use it when coding I often found it helpful to know and if it's just so you can talk to people doing something very different and still be able to have a fruitful conversation because you can kinda understand what they're doing.
Then again, in Germany University is basically free comparee to the US so I think the much bigger issue is the broken education system in the US.
