One of the most salient features of our Tech Hiring culture is that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his share. But we tend to take the situation for granted.
Reading again my comment, it's true that my tone was a bit mean. I used vim a lot and found it fascinating. I think we have better tools now, but that's not vim's fault, that's progress.
