Where do the Queers, "Weirdos," & "Freaks" Gather...?

Bahhh, sorry I missed this post, Jo.

Those places that Rachel mentioned are great!

Also, we have a yearly event for Pride month where we encourage folks to post under #devpride (and some folks post under #pride).

As Rachel mentioned though, we could certainly get better organized here!

Hahaha, no worries Michael! I was hoping to catch some fish, as they say. Baiting them with this post. LGBTQA+ is cool, but damned if I didn't want more than a single segregation of folks. I feel like there's a small underground army of individuals who are just waiting to be united. I want that intersectionality, of what people would consider the crayon nubbins of the world. Then I want them melted together to form a jumbo-crayon ;P!

I'm gunna follow those tags too by the by! Thank you!

Haha, thanks for spelling it out to me... love the melted jumbo crayon analogy! 🙌

For what it's worth, I most definitely consider myself to be in the "weirdo" and "freak" category. At least that's who I aspire to be... all my heroes are weird and freaky haha!

It would be really fun to try and build a gathering of us like-minded oddballs...

Maybe we could us an org or create a dedicated tag. Gonna think on this for a bit! 🤔

Lol to this comment, we would love to have a more clustered queer place here!

We do have a DEV tag:

#lgbtq

Tag to discuss anything oriented around the LGBTQIA+ community, experiences, resources, materials and more.

That I have always wanted to revive. Good luck to ya and let me know if I can lend a hand!

Ah, seems like we also have:

#lgbt

#trans

A dedicated tag for trans people to share articles, tips, and discuss about technology.

and maybe some org pages too! @michaeltharrington mentioned to me

which our Brazilian Portugues dev community created, which could be cool to check out!

Thanks for this Rachel. They're a good start, but I don't want to just be relegated to queers. I love my freaks and geeks too! I wish there was a space for all folks considered "other" to gather. So we can gather in ranks, and help one another up the ladder together. I'm gunna follow the lot though.

Thanks again!

I read a study: the homosexual is not designed for positions of power.

What do you think?

I think that's the same moon-logic that has kept a lot of folks down over the years. I've heard that curly haired people aren't fit for a position of power. Likewise that women can't lead. God forbid the person leading you was black/brown - and you were white. Also god forbid someone with a different gender expression than their birth-marker exist at all. It's a lot of hooey.

(Also in JP - if you're doing business you should have black hair and brown hair must be dyed.)

Ultimately I think a lot of people keep norms not so much because they're the strongest fit. But more so because they don't want to rock the boat. Likewise, the curse of a norm is that they encourage those who fit into them - to follow a set path. And discourage otherwise. I remember a scientist believing that males tend to excel in the sciences due to them peeing standing up. Which gives them a better understanding of physics, and the connection between learning and playing.

While I can't give you conclusive evidence for or against, I can say that most women are trained to be inoffensively good and subservient from a young age. Which in turn does affect their overall position in life/society. So that's a rough pill to swallow. But the original question was on queers and leadership. I guess this has all been to say that there are certain standards expected of a leader by many societies as a whole and they tend to equate to whiteness in some capacity (even in black/brown cultures) being paired with maleness. And all extras are deemed weak, and slip through the cracks. So while it's moon logic, it's clearly APPLIED moon logic. So bunk is bunk, but outside of showing up I'm not sure what else can fix anything.

Imagine people not follow rules, regulation or direction; the organized crime could command in our countries; could exist a purge. The level of insecurity increase.

Command in our countries the law of the jungle, the society retrocede to tens of thousands years in the evolution.

Hahaha, I hear you - and solid choice for references. But likewise - there is no rule that says x-y-z MUST be in a position of power and all else will fail. I mean I'm not a philosopher, so I can't give you a solid argument on this one. But I feel like we could probably apply The Socratic Method to this. Something akin to it would be a false assumption to assert that only straight men can be strong leaders, as it is their evolutionary holding. As there have been, and are highly functioning matriarchal societies. Likewise societies with feminine leaning expressionism, which yet again are quite functional (Thailand is the first that comes to mind, but I know there's more). There are women and queers in positions of power globally and locally government wise. While by a slim-margin there are some women who run fortune 500 companies.

These individuals alone would represent that there's some false logic to be expressed that the world can be only black and white. But to be honest, just looking at the world shows that. Now what I can say is that there's a lot of misogyny built into life. It's bizarrely easy for humans to dehumanize the "other." Even when they're moralistically good individuals (sort of like the trolley problem). That change is probably the hardest thing to face. Because it's rough, and it's not always promised to be rewarding. And that to face adversity and go against social norms can really upset those who adhere to said norms.

I guess I will say personally that I think the worst part of what happens when people believe immoral falsehoods and enforce them - is that they can harm in irreparable ways. I come from two sets of people who are almost completely irradiated from this world. I've been fed little snippets of my culture, but the cultural majority colonized both sets. I believe they saw themselves as in the right. Yet in actuality, if we've been taught anything in this world, is that the collective eradication or colonization of individuals based on their otherness is wrong. It's why I try not to feed into them too much, but I know I am a product of my environment. Likewise, I'm only human.

So I guess there's all that =P! Okay, your turn =P!

Yet again, I'm not a philosopher so I can't give you a solid argument against your statement here. But I can say that ethics are not monotheistic in foundation. It could even be argued that morality trumps organized religion. To the best of my understanding there's two schools of thoughts. Those who hold black and white thinking and believe that there are no gray areas, and those who believe the opposite. I would have to say we probably sit in separate camps on this one. But I will say that promoting a singular/one-size-fits all viewpoint in a diverse world seems a bit inconsiderate in form.

Oh my! Michael, I just saw this. I came upon it while trying to look up and see if anyone said anything about the GitHub game jam. Thank you! I appreciate you too. I'll say without you on here, I probably 10/10 would have sailed off into the sunset. It's nice to see a friendly face in any capacity. Thank you!
