"Would you hire him again for a bigger job?"

This is the only question that matters. Not "was he fine." Not "the price was good." Would they hand him more money for a larger project? If the answer hesitates even slightly, walk away.


What the uninformed homeowner does: Gets three quotes, picks the cheapest one, hands over a deposit, and crosses their fingers.

What the smart homeowner now does: Asks for three references, calls all three, asks the three questions above, and only then discusses price.
