Could be me but speaking at a conference is the last thing I would be interested in doing, what's more, even attending conferences isn't something that interest me, I just don't see the point. Blogging though is something I'd definitely see me doing.
That's interesting, I didn't think about the difference between conferences and meetups, good point. Yes I definitely believe more in meetups, more low-key, grassroots, informal, not commercial etc.

You're not alone. Definetly not for everyone. My hope is they could provide encouragement for those that do want to give it a go.
FWIW I really like Meetups - often more so than conferences.
