One thing a lot of people forget is also that Python is not just one thing. There's CPython, the reference implementation, and e.g. PyPy when you just need your stuff to run faster, MicroPython for embedded programming, Stackless Python for other special needs, and so on.

There's several implementations that all give you the power of Python in slightly different packages, and you don't have to relearn everything when switching to a different use-case.
