Evolving DEV’s community sponsorships

Over the past 2.5 years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with an amazing group of Gold Sponsors. You’ve seen these organizations displayed on the DEV Homepage and in Jess’s weekly Top 7 email newsletter. We originally launched the program in February 2018, but we haven’t made any major adjustments since then.

Over that same period, we’ve experienced massive transformations in pretty much every other aspect of our community and business. We’ve seen the community grow over 10x, we’ve collaborated with open-source contributors to improve the platform, and we’ve enhanced our sponsorship offerings through the CodeNewbie acquisition. We’ve also provided more clarity to our long-term vision, which is to empower community through Forem.

In an effort to ensure that our sponsorship offerings continue to evolve alongside our community and business, we are pausing our Gold plan for the time being. We’ll be using this break as an opportunity to take a breath and holistically consider community sponsorships through the lens of Forem. This hiatus will also give us the chance to focus more energy on our other community-oriented partnerships, such as the recent collaborations with Twilio, Grant for the Web, and GitHub.

We’ll likely return with some new and improved community-first sponsorship opportunities in the coming months. In the meantime, a huge thank you to all of the wonderful Gold sponsors that have supported us over the last ~30 months. A special acknowledgement to DigitalOcean who have been a true bedrock partner through so many phases of DEV’s journey.

Thanks again to these great organizations:

Dev.to has been the bedrock for so many people. I can't wait to see the different community partnerships start.
