Hi devs. I really need the community's help. Urgently! PLEASE DO READ AND REPLY! IT WOULD REALLY HELP ME DECIDE!
I won't waste time and skip to tl;dr
IF YOU NEED MORE DETAILS I'D GLADLY PROVIDE AND HAVE TIME TILL 8TH JULY (MONDAY) SO ANY SUGGESTION BEFORE THAT REALLY HELPS!
I am web and mobile applications developer working with a startup. I take technical interviews for recruiting new devs for the company. Usually I'm sure about candidates whether I want to go forward with a profile. But today I interviewed a candidate and I'm not able to decide ( maybe I am getting an empathetic feel ) and I need your help. Anyone who hasn't interviewed devs before, your suggestion will also be really helpful!
So the candidate quit his last job this month. He has taken interest in Web development lately and started learning JS and React from the last two and a half months. He isn't that good as what I expect an ideal candidate to be and what I usually approve with, but kind of got a feeling that I should give him a shot. I was going to reject him but the HR Manager of my company told me to consider if I think there might be a chance that he'll learn ( since I wasn't completely able to give a final word on it and given that if we hire him as an intern, which was how I wanted to give a shot at the profile ).
But, I don't want to take the risk of giving him a chance and if he's not able to perform, then it would be more of a loss for him than what company could lose in the financial ground since if he's not able to keep up, it'd be a waste of time and energy for him to try fitting into the company and lest he fails, that'd be demotivating for him too. He left the job because they transferred him into the field that he didn't really want to work in ( data processing ) and he quit the job and doesn't have anything to do right now.
PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE! IF THERE'S ANY CHANCE, I WANT TO GIVE HIM IF THERE'S A POSSIBILITY THAT GIVING HIM THE CHANCE WOULD MAKE HIS LIFE / CURRENT SITUATION BETTER.
I DON'T CARE THAT MUCH ABOUT MAKING A WRONG DECISION IN HIRING A CANDIDATE BUT WHAT CONCERNS ME IS THAT IF HE'S NOT ABLE TO KEEP UP, HE'LL BE FIRED STRAIGHT AWAY AND THAT'D PROBABLY MAKE HIM FEEL WORSE.
PLEASE REFER ANYONE TO REPLY IF YOU FEEL YOU CAN'T GIVE ANY SUGGESTION. I REALLY NEED HELP.
