For a dire situation with a simple solution (investing efforts into Recruitment improvements) I am really hoping that everyone does not start drawing the wrong conclusions from this, by using these kind of stories to go against:

This must have been a nightmare. Did this experience prompt your company to go over their hiring processes? How did he convince the hiring team that he has 9 years of experience?

Oh trust me, I know. Some of my best friends are devs from India and they are good people. This guy just happened to be a shithead. :)
How'd did he last with 8 commits and 27 lines of code in 3 months? that should have been the biggest red flag..

Sorry bro, wasn't intentional. It was a name out of the hat to provide anonymity.
I wasn't part of the interview, only part of the shit show. I was very much a junior compared to him on paper and I sniffed him out in the first month. But it took a while for the rest of the team to catch on.
And yes, we did notify the other company but nothing ever came of it. Who knows what he's doing now. He really killed our circle of trust and we were shaken for quite a while.
