I wouldn't replace vim clipboard with the system clipboard because I yank and put the data a lot in vim I don't want those to mix up with system clipboard

Instead I use :
"+p to paste from system clipboard to vim
"+y to copy selected data to system clipboard

I think so too. I'm using a clipboard manager and therefore it doesn't really matter how many things I copy because I can quickly search through the history of the copied things.

But if I wouldn't use a clipboard manager I would for sure use the two keys you mentioned.
