I completely agree with you, Ben. Using target="_blank" takes power away from the user which is something we should try to avoid.

That said, perhaps I should have been more clear that this is a useful technique for legacy code that already features this attribute, or for whatever reason the business case has been made to use it; this is one technique to help. πŸ‘

Perhaps someone could write a follow-up (or pre-cursor) piece to this with your title, "Why have a link that opens a new window?" πŸ€”
