In this tutorial, we are going to rock into the introduction to python and will install a python interpreter on your system. This is part - 0 of the master python programming series in 4 weeks. You can master programming in python even if you are an absolute beginner and have no programming experience with this course.

Introduction to python

Python is a scripting language, it is very simple and syntax is just like English. It is an interpreted programming language so, it’s executed line by line. it is used in many sectors like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc. It is a trending programming language and in-demand programming language. I am not going to bore you in the history of python, Let's directly jump into the installation.

Installing python

For Windows Users

So now we talked a lot of talk about python, now it’s time to install the python interpreter on your system. So first of all head over to python.org and click on Download < Windows.

Python Installation on windows

Now go ahead click on windows installer 64bit.

Now the download will get started and then after it is done, you have to run the installer and it will ask you to run as administrator on your system, just allow it and then the installer will run, just go ahead and click next and next and don’t forget to check the add python to path checkbox. That’s it! now python is installed on your windows system.

For Mac Users

Now to install, we will first install homebrew, which is a package manager for mac that helps us in installing software on mac easily, to install homebrew on a mac paste this on your terminal, and after pasting this it will get installed.

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/i
nstall.sh)"

Once you’ve installed Homebrew, insert the Homebrew directory at the top of your PATH environment variable. You can do this by adding the following line at the bottom of your ~/.profile file

export PATH="/usr/local/opt/python/libexec/bin:$PATH"

If you are running os x sierra 10.12 or any older version you can use this command.
export PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:$PATH

Now run this command on your terminal.
brew install python

Voila! Python is now installed on your Mac.

For Linux Users

Now if you are running Linux, it is very simple to install python on Linux, I am also a Linux user. We can install packages on Linux with just a few commands.

On Debian Based Distros
sudo apt update
sudo apt -y upgrade

Now you can run python3 -v to test whether python is installed properly.

On Arch Based Distros
sudo pacman -S python3

On Fedora
sudo dnf install python3

On CentOS
sudo yum install python3

On OpenSuse
sudo zypper addrepo https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:Leap:15.2:Update/standard/openSUSE:Leap:15.2:Update.repo
sudo zypper refresh
sudo zypper install python

That’s it, now in the next article, we are going to make our first python program, and in 4 weeks, if you will follow this you will become a python developer. You are going to have fun, we are going to make games, programs, have quizzes and much more!

If you have windows 7 then you can try installing python 3.8.6 or earlier version of python.

Python has dropped the support for windows 7 in its newer versions.
