Is there a base necessity to have women in tech? I don't think so. Do and should women have the right to work in tech? Sure! I have totally no problem with women in tech at all.
So to make the case for them, it should be clear what this "importance" is. How will having more or less women in tech affect society in such a way that nobody can deny it is crucial? I can't think of it without having sexist ideas.
Why aren't there more women in tech? That is a totally different question. Again, what is exactly the problem of not having enough women in tech? Besides the equity/equality argument.

And these women also work in tech? Or do they only fetch the coffee and make the sandwiches?
Funny joke, but no they program Java think with the structure, do production deployment, just like I do.
