Today, I will speak about the importance of the English in the IT field.
If I can write articles to you today, it is because at one point in my life, I understood that without English I wouldn't go far and hopefully I was right.🙌
I think I am not wrong if I say that, today, English is the most spoken language in the world and the first way of communication between people of different nationalities.
This language has become a universal language, it allows me, a Belgian student, to speak to you from all over the world.
According to this article, English will represent 80% of the data on the Internet !
It also allows teams of different nationalities, or who simply speak another language, to cooperate in a company.
For example, in Belgium, we have three official languages.
French, Dutch and German.
Generally, you'll be asked to speak one of these three languages and English; English being the default language implicitly.
In IT, this is even more true!
Most of the resources you will be looking for will be in English.
At 12-13 years old, I wanted to learn how to play with arduino's. But, at that time, it was difficult to find tutorials, documentation in French (arduino being basic Italian). I remember that only one site was French-speaking. It was tuto-arduino.fr or something like that. But when you clicked on the link it would send you back to a 503 error.... It was quite frustrating, and that's when I decided to learn English at the same time as Arduino. English being more useful for my projects in the future.
And it helped me a lot, whether at school where I didn't have to learn the vocabulary or in my learning of programming language, or computer science in general.
English is so important in our field that someone has even written a wiki about it. 😂
Today, I'm able to write posts with spelling mistakes, but the main thing is that you understand most of the time 😅
English has helped me a lot when I was looking for work and I think it will remain an asset.
Without English, I would never have known so much in IT and I would never have been able to write these lines and that's why I'm constantly trying to improve myself.
By the way, do you have any tips and tricks to improve my spoken English, when I have to read or write someting in english, I "easily" find my words, but when I am in front of someone, or the worst, a phone call, I have trouble finding my words.
As you will have understood, I strongly advise you to consider English as a crucial skill and to constantly improve this skill.
