Well the reason I was thinking of it wasn't that I think imperative approaches are more complicated, just that in the point about bugs, I entertained the idea of phrasing it in the "is directly proportional to" way instead of "the more ... the more", and started to think there was some correspondence between the two. TBH I kind of don't like "the more ... the more" as a grammar construction; it feels like a hack to me.
