Build in Public: Week One Check-in

Hi friends ๐Ÿ‘‹

It's check-in time for the Virtual Coffee Build in Public Challenge! This is a challenge where you commit to sharing your progress on a project publicly, on a weekly basis.

Tell us how you did this week. You might share things like:

  • What did I accomplish this week?
  • What are my goals for next week?
  • What challenges am I facing?
  • How can we help you?

And if you haven't started yet, that's ok too! Just jump into the check-ins when you're ready.

What did I accomplish this week? Linking to topics works, which means all 68 blogs have all the info I want in them and I can get the main page done.
What are my goals for next week? Homepage and/or dark mode toggle
What challenges am I facing? Starting to think I need a lil db/API now that I have three JS objects full of data about the blogs. ๐Ÿค”

  • What did I accomplish this week? I set my goal to contribute to a new Open Source project and was lucky enough to have @codergirl1991 recommend a FCC one. So Iโ€™ve now been assigned!
  • What are my goals for next week? Read through the docs, and get things set up locally. Also need to resolve some formatting issues Iโ€™ve been having in VS code.

Non-coder here!

What did I accomplish this week?

I created a super fun visual language for a series we got going on at The CodeNewbie Team. I am super proud of this one because I feel like I am noticing my improvements in illustrationโ€” it will be out soon!

What are my goals for next week?

Gosh, I am excited to get some new badges going for y'all soon, it is going to be fun!

What I did for week one was also my challenge. I familiarized myself with Next.js by reading the docs and watching tutorials. I ended up in tutorials hell ๐Ÿคช

What I accomplished, I wrote a blogpost to start the challenge! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

I started working on adding the vendors page for the oboe site
oboe-is-cool.com/vendors

My goals for next week are to continue adding vendors and start working on the events page.

  • Literally accomplished nothing this week, was too busy with my freelance projects. Unfortunately putting food on the table takes a priority in life and so do paid projects over open source contributions.
  • I have a laundry list of goals and mission statements on how to make this world better with open source software but implementation details are vague. Nevertheless, I plan to work on some of this next week assuming I do get time.
  • The biggest challenges I'm facing are time management and task allocation. The only thing I'm good at is programming (and allied tasks like web design, documentation, devops and configuration, docker, git, ssh, etc.) but not so good at things like scheduling and managing oneself.
  • You can help me by providing me tips/advice/insights on how to overcome my shortcomings described above.
