The tech space is an atmosphere that accommodate every Tom,Dick and Harry. Finding the best thing to do is not lacking but getting the right source will land you on some irrelevant track which might interest you but get you of your pursuit. The moment you fail to realise this you are gone forever, this has made many of us spend years finding where we belong in the tech space.
My Story
Getting admission into computer engineering wasn't my choice but a chance, Nevertheless I took it upon myself to enjoy studying it since I was from a background that couldn't fight or offer me what I wanted. After two(2) years of my national diploma I finally found a part I wanted.
When it is said your decision determine your destination it actually what life has made me realise. 2017 would have been another year where I felt I got on track I was opportuned to work in an engineering firm where I was trained on electrical installation, distribution box termination, and high voltage panel installation. This isn't where I am going, the ice breaker was when I had the to meet with guys who came to install CCTV, servers and ISP, remembering me been hired to install pipes on walls to install LAN cables, while in my department I was opportuned to install fire alarm system and configure smoke detectors. I took further research to understand I could find my place in Infrastructure system support. After completion of my training I was back to school, I could no longer connect with the company because they were very far for me to work with them and my passion died.
The Winning Edge
After writing and passing Cisco IT Essential exams I was eager to further study then I stumbled on IOT and introduction to cybersecurity, this raised my dead passion, I took the course online but had a limitation, there wasn't a laptop for me to continue learning with simulation software as recommended,all this occurred in 2019.
After struggling to get an industrial placement proved abortive I decided to venture back on electronic repairs, the skills I acquired help me so much and I thought I was already aligning with my dream yet it was a no. I got a laptop became a self thought designer, made money from design while back for my HND program but yet not doing my passion. I got discouraged and kicked it off again and formatted my pc for software engineering which I started with Alx, but along I got a job with a Telecommunications contractor this took 1year and 3 months of my time but painfully I was not in the transmission part instead I was supervising mechanical and electrical parts of the project.
The heartbreaking decision
Since I was already making money that could fund my bills , help my siblings and parents I could no longer pursue my dreams. I was in Warri, Delta State as usual for work in the hotel room when I got my posting for Nysc to Bauchi State. I got myself prepared and left Warri for Lagos and then Bauchi state. This is I will say helped me got back on track and I could complete my cybersecurity training and no really want to get hands on experience project. Which is now the most difficult of it all. No job at the moment, no mentor no friends but I have become so rigid to pursue that dream because it is never late.
Why Cybersecurity?
Having gone through many experiences I have discovered how industries while trying to put up installation, you will see security always on their budget. Hold on I never told the story of my interest in the Nigeria Navy but I passionately loved securing asset with use of technology. Since I will not be a military person,I will be an online security officer.
Finally, having gone all through the face I have concluded to spend my life as an Infrastructure system Support and Network Security Engineer.
