I just checked Qwiklabs and it appears the labs are just there. So instead of spending the $2000 just spend the $50 USD, do the labs in a couple of days and unsubscribe your account.

What I have heard from everyone is that these $2K AWS Training labs are not worth the money. I suppose if your company is willing to pay for your training and give sharp discounts for APN companies or you are making 200-300K+ per year than there is no reason not to, but these courses are not accessible to common folk to provide enough value back.

I have video labs and lectures that are free on my Youtube that covert these topics in detail. If I have time I'll circle back up and link these up:

  • AWS account management
  • Deployment management on AWS
  • Failover with Route 53 and RDS Read Replication
  • Designing for large-scale applications
  • Blue-green deployment using Elastic Beanstalk and Elasticache
  • Multi-VPC Connectivity over VPN
  • Encryption and Data Security
  • Using AWS KMS Envelope Encryption

I agree that these courses, like most traditional classroom based training courses are expensive and out of the range of many. I was able to get a substantial APN discount, and the course was paid for out of a training budget, so based on that I think it was worth my time (and not having the budget available for something else), but I wouldn't have paid $2K out of my own pocket for it.

For some online videos, either free or relatively inexpensive are a good option. I wouldn't take another virtual classroom course like this because the format didn't really suit me, but I still see a benefit in in-person classroom course when it can be more interactive.

It would be great if you could provide links to your videos as I'd like to check those out, and it would be interesting to see how they compare to the official AWS training material. Also, if you have links to those Qwiklab labs as I couldn't find exact matches for the ones that were part of the course.
