When I first started programming, I felt like all the examples given were just too simple to get a full image.
New they are just too complex I guess.
Well, that's part of how hard it's to teach, you have to find the middle ground between too complex or too simple.
It'll depend on what kind of resources you're choosing, some of them are popular for using unrealistic examples that are just easier than real ones, and some others just throw you into unnecessary concepts, complex analogies, etc.
