The EU Cybersecurity Strategy: Building a Resilient and Trustworthy Digital Europe

The European Commission’s EU Cybersecurity Strategy outlines a bold vision: to strengthen Europe’s resilience to cyber threats and ensure that citizens, businesses, and governments can benefit from trustworthy digital technologies.

In the face of an expanding digital landscape and increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks, the Strategy calls for a collective European effort — combining technological sovereignty, operational readiness, and international cooperation.

According to the European Commission, the strategy focuses on three core priorities:

  1. Resilience, Technological Sovereignty, and Leadership – enhancing the security of essential services and critical infrastructure such as hospitals, energy networks, and transport systems.
  2. Operational Capacity to Prevent, Deter, and Respond – building the EU’s ability to act collectively in the event of large-scale cyber incidents.
  3. Global and Open Cyberspace – promoting international cooperation grounded in democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

The EU plans to support this strategic direction through significant investment — four times higher than before — as part of its Digital Decade and Security Union Strategy 2020–2025.

This initiative underscores a simple truth: Europe’s digital future depends on shared responsibility, trust, and long-term resilience.
