This is what I just posted on Facebook:

So... I'd really appreciate some "real talk" from all/any of my black friends here on FB. Are you at all pleased with GitHub deciding that they will no longer call the main code branch "master"? Are you at all pleased that some real estate groups are saying that they will no longer refer to a room as the "master bedroom" or the "master bath"? I'm asking because I'll freely admit that this sounds downright silly to me. More importantly, this isn't an "issue" that I've EVER heard ANY of my black friends/acquaintances complain about. If black folk felt harmed by this, then I'd be 100% behind it. But it feels to me like this is a sad misdirection - fixing a non-issue at the expense of addressing the MASSIVE problems that our society foists upon black people.

But maybe this is an example of me "centering" myself in the issue?? It wouldn't be the first time. And before I allow my thinking on the matter to gel, I'd like to earnestly solicit any feedback from the people that it's supposedly designed to address. What say you??

As stated on the bottom of the article here, this is not the place. There's a link to an article by one person whom it does affect. I would definitely say you're centering yourself in the issue.
