Amparo

Main goals

Inspired by our country’s needy communities, our group decided to develop an app with the purpose to help underprivileged people to be able to keep themselves and their families over the misery line.

Emerging countries suffered a big impact from the coronavirus crisis, for example, Latin America reached a 10,6% unemployment rate by the end of 2020, which means that about 30 million people do not have a formal job.

For these countries’ poor people, the pandemic is very hard to deal with and many of the inhabitants of these places looked for informal jobs to get an income, while others depend on donations to keep their families alive.

Considering these facts, we decided to create an app that connected donors to these communities and this population, who bore an overpowering need to get a job or sell their productions, to people who wish for it.

This way we could help to prevent thousands of people deaths by hunger in underdeveloped countries and provide job opportunities easier. Our app also allows autonomous sellers to learn how to sell their products and services on an easy and accessible platform.

World economies struggling with rising unemployment
COVID-19 proved to be a big challenge even for developed countries, the global unemployment affected greatly the world population and, as seen in Brazil graphs, underdeveloped and in developing countries, especially those which already had high unemployment rates, experienced the worst results.

Logo

Our project name is “Amparo”, a Portuguese word that means to help/pay assistance. This is our logo that illustrates one of the main purposes of this app, finding side hustles for people in need.

While developing this app we tried to focus on some topics:

  1. Being easy and accessible to the general public.
  2. Being helpful and useful.
  3. Creating opportunities.
  4. Looking for volunteers and donors.
  5. Motivating people to stay strong during hard times and help others if possible.

Pandemic times forced many companies to diminish how much they spent with their workers, this way, formal jobs diminished in many areas so we decided to focus on helping people get side hustles as a way to survive.

App Accessibility

Accessibility was one of the most important topics we decided to develop because we aimed for a huge range of age as our goal client, so it was very important for the app to be intuitive and easy to deal with.

For this we used a simple design with very visible font size, the big buttons with icons turn the app more accessible and easy on the eyes.

The color combination is quite simple and makes the app design not exaggerated. Our app is compatible with IOS and android technologies so we can have the maximum range of public of both people needing assistance and opportunities and people providing them.

Technologies

We developed the app using React Native, which is a framework based on the famous React, created by Facebook, and Expo, a framework and platform with a lot of built tools for React Native, by this combination we could quickly develop a complete and multiplatform (Ios and Android) mobile software. We opted for a mobile app due to the accessibility and practicality. About the programming languages, the application is divided into JS and JSX, the first, Javascript, is the default programming web language, and the second, Javascript extended, is a brilliant way to code all the front-end inside the Js code
