Hey everyone! 😊
I wanted to share a personal breakthrough in my indie dev journey. This project comes from a mix of reflections, inspirations, and a bit of “rojakness” — blending everything I’ve experienced, observed, and experimented with lately.
Background & Inspirations:
• Inspired by psychological genres (my own reflections on mood and patterns, multiple disorders, and neurodivergent thought patterns).
• Remix of creative ideas: Barbie & Zombie mechanics, my game jam experiences, and procedural AI inspirations from friends like Melinn and my genius friend who did Bonded Escape.
• Realizations from personal reflection: how copy, remixing, and self-analysis can fuel creativity.
Core Idea:
• This game/concept explores self-reflection and breaking norms through narrative, gameplay, and interactive elements.
• It’s part psychological thriller, part experimental indie game, part storytelling playground.
• My goal was to focus on atmosphere, story vibes, and interactivity rather than perfection — inspired by “execution over perfection.”
Technical & Creative Notes:
• Storyboarding done with a combination of Canva AI and my own design.
• Gameplay inspiration: procedural AI ideas, interactive mini-games, and “vibe coding” experimentation.
• Cross-inspiration: some story beats and psychological genre choices were inspired by watching and learning from other indie developers, while my own reflections shaped the final concept.
Reflections on Growth:
• I realized that giving ideas + selective contribution is a pattern I’ve done before — but this time I focused on contributing upfront and owning my storyboard and story design.
• Outsourcing some help (like from Tom and AI) doesn’t diminish creative ownership — it’s about knowing where to push myself and where to collaborate.
• Copy + remix = creative breakthrough. Even if I draw inspiration from others, the final vision reflects my own voice and style.
Try it & Feedback:
• I’d love for fellow devs to explore the CodePen demo I’ve created:https://codepen.io/nad-Yunny/pen/azvgmPG
• Any feedback, thoughts, or ideas are super welcome!
This post is about embracing the messy, “rojak” process of creation — the mix of reflection, inspiration, collaboration, and experimentation that drives growth as a solo indie dev.
Thanks for reading & being part of the journey! 🎉🤯🫰
