Just a note for anyone reading this article, the vast majority of this information is not actually Linux specific. These are shell commands, the same or similar shells also run on MacOS, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Illumos, SmartOS, and a whole bunch of other non-Linux based OSes.
