🤔 I honestly don't understand why it should be important to have equality of gender in something like a Dev community (or anywhere else).
I mean, an employer shouldn't care less about an employee's gender or race, he shouldn't care about that at all.
All we should care about is "are you a good developer or not? Are you qualified for the job, yes or no?" That's it.
I'm a web application developer with about 20 years of Java experience with Struts but I started my career as a programmer working in a hospital coding in COBOL and medical systems (SMS and Meditech).
The reality is that they do care even if they aren't outspoken about it. Plenty of women, transgender and other under represented are passed on when it's time to hire someone or to promote within a company. Tech is still a men's world.
