General Formula:

  • To create a running count of certain values that appear in a range of cells, you can use the following formula.

=IF(A1=”criteria”=,(COUNTIF($A$1:A1,”criteria”),””)

Syntax Explanations:

  • IF – The Excel** IF function** return one value for a TRUE result, and another for a FALSE result.
  • COUNTIF – In Excel, this function will help to count the number of cells that meet a single condition or criteria.

  • Comma symbol (,) – It is a separator which helps to separate a list of values.
  • Parenthesis () – The main purpose of this symbol is to group the elements.
  • Range (A1)– It represents the input range from your worksheet.
