Thank you. I had somewhat similar misgivings about the ads and did wonder about the 'approved ads', which I've totally blocked.
I'm not so fussed about the extensions, they're 3rd party, so I'll be dealing with 3rd parties wherever I go. If, however, Google are injecting their own code into those extensions, then I'd be worried, but AFAIK that's not happening.
Guess my current use case is 'limit the exposure to google, but still make use of them'. I've tried using DDG, but it still really sucks compared to G and Bing in many areas (e.g. indexing SPAs).
Think I might have Stockholm syndrome as far as the dev tools are concerned :D
