The /stol/ board was a part of a now-closed website called Anon-IB. This site was an anonymous image board where users shared pictures and messages without using their real names. One of the worst sections of this site was the /stol/ board, short for "stolen." On this board, people posted private and often intimate photos of others without permission.
Many of these images were obtained through illegal methods like hacking into cloud storage accounts (such as iCloud or Dropbox), tricking people into sending personal photos, or stealing from old devices. Some users even shared tips on how to do this, making it easier for others to join in.
Over time, /stol/ became a hub for non-consensual sharing, often targeting women and even minors. Authorities took notice. In 2018, Dutch police and international cybercrime units shut down Anon-IB, arrested several users, and seized servers to stop the spread of illegal content.
This event was a major step in the fight against online privacy violations. It reminded everyone that sharing or collecting private images without consent is not only morally wrong, but also a serious crime.
Always think before you post, and respect others' privacy—online and offline.
