Yeah, self-hosting google-fonts is great (and mandatory in the EU, due to GDPR (afaik)).
Also today there is no benefit from using CDNs regarding caching. (Back in the days, on a.com the browser downloaded jquery from the CDN. On b.com they did not download it, because it was already cached. Today for security and privacy reasons, resources from CDNs are cached per origin)
