Looking back at the what-how mindset I once had, I honestly think it was a very damaging way to work. Getting out of that mindset is certainly something that only experience will teach you, either that or some very hard knocks.
I think the mindset that I now have is quite cautious (in a positive way), although I'd say I'm more of a what-why-how person. For me, the most important factor is understanding exactly what the business needs, after which I can roll on with the why, and finally the how.
