Great advice! Thanks for posting this. A couple of additional things I've found helpful are:

  1. Start with a single resume & cover letter, but create different ones when necessary to target a specific industry or employer.

  2. Keep a record (aka the dreaded spreadsheet) of the organizations you've applied to, contacts at those organizations, and their response. You'll need this to make reflection more useful ("measure what you manage")

  3. The impact of including articles you've written and professional organizations you contribute your time to can't be underestimated. It demonstrates your commitment to your career, profession, & helping others.
