Communities are actually a resource I myself underused to a degree. I did ask the developers in my network to pair programme with me and had a few coffees asking for job hunting advice. I also asked a few tech lead friends if they could do mock interviews with me (we never actually got around to that). And ofcourse there are the introductions to people who already work for companies you want to work for. Hope this helps.
