What is the main function of thin film capacitors?

(1) The basic function of thin film capacitors is the same as that of all capacitors, which is to store charges.
(2) Compared to other general capacitors, film capacitors have many excellent and unique properties, making them a high-performance capacitor. Its main excellent features are as follows: non-polar, high insulation impedance, wide frequency response, and minimal dielectric loss.
(3) The capacitor with metalized thin film has a so-called self-healing effect, which means that if a small part of the electrode is short circuited due to the fragility of the electrical interface, the electrode metal around the short circuited part will cause a larger area of melting and evaporation due to the static energy or short-circuit current carried by the capacitor at that time, restoring the insulation of the capacitor and restoring its function as a capacitor again. That means it can heal instantly.
