I started reading your article very skeptical, because god I wouldn't like to work at Facebook...

But in your response, you nailed it: wherever you work, if you have a great boss, almost nothing else matters, stay there and grow. And maintain the relationship after you leave.

Almost everyone agrees that 1 year is too short.

Then count me in among the people that say that sometimes one year is too long.

In 2019 I started working at a company where the tech was everything I could dream of. But I eventually realized that I didn't care about the project, and that many people working here were kind of assholes. I was vaguely thinking about leaving after one year or so.

But at the end of 6 months they chose for me and announced that they would terminate my contract. That was a big surprise, but in a matter of days it turned into a big relief. At last, I had clarity, I was free to choose something that really suits me. No joke, me being fired started one of the happiest moment of my life.

At the beginning of the article I had the same doubts about the post because of Meta knowing how many people they laid off that's not the point of the article, it could have been any other tech company, really.

Having a good manager that understands you and treats you well as well as having the opportunity given by the company for growth, there's really no reason to switch your company after a year, chances of learning more and more are higher if you stay in one company for multiple years given the fact that there's also a chance you'll be promoted, of course, which would lead to new things that eventually help you grow but I've been working in a tech company for 4 years now thinking I wouldn't be there for more than a year, yet I don't regret a single day for staying still, well written post, cheers!
