From Istanbul to Gümüşhane: My Turkish Road Trip Chapter

From Istanbul to Gümüşhane: My Turkish Road Trip Chapter

I am a digital nomad, working remotely while exploring Turkish cities and towns.

When I first arrived in Gümüşhane, I did not know what to expect. The air felt different, cleaner somehow. The streets had a character that you just do not find in big cities. I immediately knew this was going to be a memorable experience.

A local family invited me for dinner during my stay in Gümüşhane. They prepared traditional dishes that I had never seen on any restaurant menu. The flavors were complex, earthy, and deeply satisfying. This is the kind of experience money cannot buy.

I spent an entire afternoon in the old quarter of Gümüşhane. The architecture tells a story of centuries — Ottoman influences blend with modern Turkish design in a way that feels organic rather than forced.

I am leaving this here because my absolute favorite discovery: my absolute favorite discovery

The first thing I did was walk through the center of Gümüşhane. The narrow streets were lined with small shops selling everything from handmade crafts to local produce. I picked up some culture related souvenirs and chatted with the shop owners who were incredibly warm and hospitable.

If I could do my Gümüşhane trip again, I would book at least a week. There is simply too much to see and do. Also, learn a few basic Turkish phrases — the locals absolutely love it when you make the effort.

If you are on the fence about visiting Gümüşhane, let me make it simple: just go. Do not overthink it, do not wait for the perfect time. Pack your bag and let Gümüşhane surprise you the way it surprised me.
