My AWS Workshop Experience: A Journey into Cloud Computing
Hello everyone, my name is Maheshkumar, studying B.E. CSE student at Anna University Regional Campus, Madurai. I recently had the fantastic opportunity to participate in an AWS workshop, which was an enriching experience that significantly broadened my understanding of cloud computing. The workshop took place over two half days and one full day on the Amazon AWS Skill Builder site, where we focused on the Amazon AWS Cloud Practitioner certification. I am excited to share my journey, experiences, and the knowledge I gained during this event.
Day 1: Introduction to AWS Cloud Computing
The first half day of the workshop began with a comprehensive introduction to AWS cloud computing. Our expert instructor guided us through the fundamental concepts of cloud computing, highlighting its advantages and potential. Key topics covered included:
•Introduction to Cloud Computing: Understanding the basics of cloud computing and its benefits such as scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency.
•Overview of AWS Services: A tour through the vast array of services offered by AWS, including compute, storage, networking, and more.
The interactive nature of the sessions allowed us to engage in discussions, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the topics. This initial session laid a solid foundation for the more advanced topics we would tackle later.
Day 2: Hands-On with AWS Services
On the second half day, we dived deeper into specific AWS services. The hands-on labs were particularly exciting as they allowed us to apply what we learned in a practical setting. We focused on:
•Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud): Learning how to launch, configure, and manage virtual servers in the cloud.
•Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service): Understanding how to store and retrieve data with high availability and security.
•Amazon VPC (Virtual Private Cloud): Setting up and managing isolated networks within the AWS cloud.
These practical exercises were instrumental in reinforcing our understanding of these core AWS services and how to use them effectively.
Full Day: Advanced AWS Topics and Exam Preparation
The full day session was intensive and focused on advanced topics and preparing us for the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification exam. We explored:
•Amazon DynamoDB: Learning about this NoSQL database service and its applications for building scalable and high-performance applications.
•Amazon EFS (Elastic File System): Understanding how to create and manage file storage in the cloud that can be accessed by multiple EC2 instances.
•Auto Scaling and Self-Healing: Implementing strategies for automatically scaling applications to meet demand and maintaining application availability by replacing unhealthy instances.
We also delved into:
•AWS Global Infrastructure: Learning about the global network of AWS regions and availability zones.
•Billing and Pricing: Understanding AWS pricing models, cost management, and best practices for optimizing cloud spending.
The day concluded with a comprehensive review session and a mock exam. This exercise was crucial in boosting our confidence and readiness for the certification exam.
Achievement Unlocked: Earning the Badge
Successfully completing all stages of the workshop and earning the AWS Cloud Practitioner badge was a moment of pride and accomplishment. The badge symbolizes not just the technical knowledge and skills acquired but also the dedication and effort put into mastering AWS cloud computing.
Reflections and Gratitude
Participating in this AWS workshop has been a transformative experience. It provided me with a robust understanding of various AWS services and practical skills that I can apply in my future projects. I am incredibly grateful to @harishThiyagarajan, my senior, for his unwavering guidance and support throughout this journey. His insights and encouragement were invaluable.
