Solo mining is the method used by a miner to independently complete a mining operation. The rewards are given to the miner who has successfully validated and generated all of the blocks.
Satoshi Nakamoto mined Bitcoin by himself when Bitcoin mining first started. Solo mining is not feasible without significant resources, due to the extreme difficulty of the puzzles and fierce competition.
