I think you are absolutely right - coding has to change dramatically to meet the demands of the future - more code abstraction and modularity are absolutely critical.
The gap between a Lego-like programming with abstract components to a sort-of universal drag-n-drop interface that has all the benefits of the current [similar] tools but with far far less limitations, is really not that wide.
