AI vs AI in Job Applications – Is This Our New Reality?

Today I came across a post from an HR professional who shared how she started using AI to screen resumes. She noticed something interesting: when reviewing 100 resumes manually, she initially passed over 10 candidates whose profiles actually matched once she connected with them directly. With AI, however, all 100 relevant resumes were captured, because the system focused strictly on the presence of certain keywords and technologies.

Her advice to candidates was to adjust their resumes for every vacancy to reflect the exact requirements. It’s a fair point, though it raises a question: if none of the 100 resumes mentioned those particular technologies in the expected way, how critical were they in practice? Sometimes it might simply come down to a matter of phrasing, like “HTML” vs “HTML5.”

What struck me most was that this adds another step in the process that filters not for skills, but for awareness of how to format a resume to align with an automated system. And inevitably, we may see tools emerge that automatically adapt resumes to match job descriptions — if they don’t already exist.

It feels like we’re heading toward a cycle where AI systems filter resumes, and other AI systems help candidates adjust to those filters.
