iOS 11 VS Android Oreo: Feature Comparison

Both Android and iOS have rolled in their new versions into the market. The latest iOS11 and Android Oreo were catered to the users by the end of this year and there are so many new features added into both operating systems, although what’s interesting is that many of them are inspired from each others already running versions. Features like memory management, speed upgrade, battery life have changed the earlier prospective of Smartphone usage.

In this never ending battle it is still hard to decide which one is winning so far, but we can sure compare the latest features, and see which one best suit our requirements in a Smartphone.
Spoiler alert! There will be a lot common between the two’s latest version. Many features are inspired and there will be a less wow factor although but they are surely to transform the way you use your phones.

Notifications

The notifications have undergone drastic changes in both android Oreo and iOS 11. The first inspired feature is the Android Oreo notification indicator on the app icon and long press gesture inspired from 3D touch in iOS. This new Android Oreo notification indicator is transforming the ways to customize app notifications. It offers new notification channels that help you manage the similar kind of notifications in one go and background customizations giving you various colour options to have fun with your notifications.

Although apple has not added any new feature into the notification tab, but it’s no less in providing ease to the users. The drastic renovation that the iOS 11 notifications have undergone is the removal of old notification centre completely. Now when the user swipe down from the top of the screen, he is met with a locked screen to open and then reach the push notifications.

Auto Fill

The latest Android Oreo has embedded agility for the application by providing the Auto Fill information feature. This new API helps mobile app development companies to use if further in making the app interface much seamless. The auto fill feature helps filling in of the information such as username, password and email address.

iOS 11 has the iCloud Keychain which stores the information and password of the users, but it already had an auto fill feature embedded in it except for the exclusion of few restricted apps.

Productivity and Multitasking

iOS 11 will now be seen with app-switching, split view. The iPad is going to receive some major upgrades which will make moving between the apps and new doc very similar to Mac OS making it a lot feasible for the iOS users. But it can upset the iPhone users as these features are running just iPad. But still, iPhone users can delight in the new file apps, major improvements in stock apps as Mails and Notes.
For Android Oreo it may not come as a surprise because, Nougat received the same feature last year itself, in fact this one inspired iPhone to adorn it in its iPad.

Picture-in-Picture

The amazing Picture-in-picture app support is rolling in Android Oreo too. Picture-in-picture is now supported in every android phone. For those who don’t know much about this feature, it was earlier introduced in iPads with iOS 9 and it allows users to minimize the video and let it run in the minimized screen while multitasking with an ease of moving anywhere on the screen.
Since it is one feature that was introduced in iPad earlier, we can expect to see it in future iOS updates.

Memory Management

This one is a game changer for iPhone. The latest iOS11 has great memory management features to lure any user looking for better memory management. The images and videos come in formats as HEIF (High- Efficiency File Format) and HEVF (High-Efficiency Video Format) which offload the apps and store photos to cloud memory. It automatically offloads the apps that users do not engage with much in situation of storage crisis. It also comes with perks of storing messages on iClouds.
This is one feature we are expecting Android future versions to avail us all. Android Oreo doesn’t hold much in its bag as such for memory management.

Smart Text Selection

Android smart text selection allows user when he / she highlight address, phone numbers, different links etc they by default come with a standard cut, copy, paste action to make it easier for users to perform actions. This feature is quiet similar to that of iOS implementation of the user interaction. Also, Google has embedded it with AI smart identification enhancing its user friendliness.
