Node clusters are good for small scaling! But I've seen performance comparisons with Nginx and custom IPTables and the performance for bigger clustering using Nginx as load balancer is waaay better (sorry couldn't find the article to link here). So if your needs are big, maybe clusters won't be the best choice.
