Could you explain why application permissions was choosen over delegated permission?
As I understand it, application permission is giving the logged in user access to all users data in the directory as opposed to just their own (through delegated permission).

@ryanspain Thanks for your comment! It really depends on how you use the app. If you want to use the delegated permission, it's totally OK.
