Well I've been a coder while a smoker and alcoholic, but its not good. The distraction from thinking about your next 'fix' doesn't help, the general feeling bad from daily hang overs is not great, and both alcohol and cigarettes add a kind of fog to the mind. I would assume other addictions are worse or at least not much better.
