For a high demand skill, I personally recommend python just because its multipurpose.
Python is a great scripting language. Lots of libraries available.
Your right, Design skills and User Experience is a necessity if you work on the front end. You dont have to be a designer per seh but apply the principles.
Yea. It's one way to think about the user instead of just writing code they may not want.
Also, the linux CMD Line and admin tools.
Can't live without Linux in this world.
