great learning path.. the issues usually for getting the job. as lots of company require experience and some exposure on data eng in production.

also some enterprise still looking for people that have proprietary skills like talend, snowflake, informatica etc.

so it's hard to make jump as they don't have portfolio.

This has some truth to it. I think I usually see most people spend a little time in another position and eventually move into data engineer. So it's far from impossible. I went from analyst to data engineer even without experience in proprietary skills.

But it always depends company to company.

right, and also depends on the people and his ability to learn quickly. because if the foundation of computer science is not that strong, it will be a hard time for them to learn the distributed system part.

so i think you are one of a kind and keep sharing your journey so it will give people boost on how to do this from different skillsets.
