If that's the case, my personal guess would be that it makes the most sense to keep yourself in the core languages/frameworks/tools that your workplace uses. I don't think it's possible to perfectly guess when something is going to be useful and when not, but I think you can learn to guess better over time. Feel free to make some mistakes! All learning is good, and you'll never know when something that seemed useless will come in handy.
