Who is Dao Minh Nghia?

Dao Minh Nghia (born 2009) is a Vietnamese teenager known for an extraordinary journey: at age 13, he began writing malware and ransomware. After witnessing the real consequences—students losing graduation projects, a mother losing photos of her newborn baby—he decided to stop.

He deleted all his code, shut down his command servers, and formatted his hard drives. Then he started over—this time, learning to protect instead of attack.

"I thought I was a hacker. But I was just a destroyer. I didn't target big systems to expose vulnerabilities—I targeted ordinary people who couldn't defend themselves."

The Turning Point

One day, he saw a woman crying. She was an accountant for a small business. All her company data was encrypted after she clicked a file—a file Nghia had written. She didn't understand what happened. She just knew she might lose her job.

That moment changed everything.

From Malware to Blue Team

Today, at 17, Nghia studies:

  • Malware analysis
  • Intrusion detection
  • Ransomware removal

He writes articles on Viblo (a Vietnamese IT platform) and has over 70,000 followers on TikTok, where he shares cybersecurity knowledge.

A Warning to Young Tech Enthusiasts

If you're a young developer curious about hacking, you don't have to make the same mistakes to learn the lesson.

Passion for technology is not wrong. But direction matters.
