The Decision Coach's Monday Challenge: Make the One Decision You've Been Avoiding

You know the decision. It has been sitting in the back of your mind for days — maybe weeks. You circle around it, gather more information, ask one more person for their opinion. But you still have not made the call.

This is not a lack of information problem. It is a resistance problem.

Why We Stall on Important Decisions

Big decisions feel permanent. And the brain, wired for survival, treats permanent things as dangerous. So it buys time — disguised as research, reflection, or waiting for the "right moment."

The right moment does not come. You already know what you need to do. What you need is permission to do it now.

Today's Challenge: The One-Decision Protocol

Before noon today, do this:

  1. Name the decision — Write it in one sentence. No vague language. "I need to decide whether to leave my job" or "I need to decide whether to end this relationship."
  2. Set a 10-minute timer — Write every reason FOR and every reason AGAINST on a piece of paper. No phone, no tabs, just you and the page.
  3. Make the call — When the timer ends, choose. Not because you have perfect certainty, but because staying stuck has a cost too. Indecision is a decision — just a passive one that drains you daily.
  4. Write one action step — What is the first physical thing you will do in the next 24 hours that moves you toward that decision?

Do not add it to a list. Do it today.

What Happens When You Do This

Something unexpected: relief. Not because the problem disappears, but because your nervous system finally stops holding the weight of the unresolved.

People who make hard decisions faster do not have less fear. They have learned that clarity — even imperfect clarity — is lighter than endless uncertainty.

You will think more clearly for the rest of the week. You will sleep better tonight. And you will prove to yourself that you can trust your own judgment.
